Why Take Joint Relief Power Pack
Joint pain, inflammation and stiffness are some of the common symptoms you may experience if you suffer from arthritis. Joint pain is often felt in knees, hips, hands, shoulders, elbows or elsewhere in the body, making movement painful and difficult. The most common treatment for joint pain are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs, which can cause unwanted side effects with prolonged use. (1) Joint Relief Power Packs contain natural herbs that can be used as an alternative to NSAIDs and may provide relief from joint pain and inflammation with few or no significant side effects.*
Key Benefits of Joint Relief Power Pack
- Supports joint health*
- Relieves minor pain*
- Supports joint comfort*
- Relaxes and calms muscles*
- Improves sleep*
Curcumin
Turmeric is a spice that comes from the rhizome root and is a common spice used in Indian dishes. Turmeric powder gives the distinctive yellow color associated with Indian curry. Aside from its use as a spice, turmeric has medicinal properties that have been used in the traditional Indian system of medicine known as Ayurveda. Curcumin, the main active compound in turmeric, has strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The benefits of curcumin extend to treatment of diabetes, arthritis, Alzheimer's disease and other diseases (2,3,4)*
BCM-95®, the turmeric extract included in the Joint Releif Power Pack, contains 95% of total curcumnoids complex, includes curcumin, curcuminoids and volatile oils. BCM-95® has been found to be absorbed at a faster rate, decline gradually and was present in blood for a longer period of time after intake when compared to two other forms of curcumins tested. (5)*
Meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials show that curcumin is effective in relieving symptoms of joint pain and maybe comparable to pain medication. (6) A clinical study found that patients with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) had improved Disease Activity Score (DAS) and American College of Rheumatology (ACR) scores for reduction in tenderness and swelling of joints after treatment with curcumin. The study also reported that patients did not experience any adverse effects associated with intake of curcumin and concluded that it was a safe and effective treatment for RA patients, though more studies are needed. (7)*
Boswellia
Boswellia or Indian frankincense is a resin extracted from the Boswellia serrata tree that has been used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine to treat inflammatory, hormonal, microbial and gastrointestinal diseases. (8) The resin from the Boswellia tree contains boswellic acid and alpha-boswellic acid that have been found to decrease swelling in the knee joint, reduce knee discomfort, increase knee bending flexibility and the ability to walk for longer distance in patients with knee osteoarthritis. (9)*
A recent meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials found that formulations containing both curcuminoid and boswellia were significantly effective in providing relief from pain. They also helped improve knee function in patients with knee osteoarthritis. (10) Another study found that intake of a combination of curcuminoids and boswellic acid by osteoarthritis patients was more effective than curcuminoids alone in relieving joint pain and morning stiffness. (11)*
White Willow Bark (Salix alba)
White willow bark contains salicin, an active component that has been used to relieve pain, lower fever and reduce inflammation for thousands of years. (12) White willow bark has been reported to work like aspirin for treatment of inflammatory conditions. (13) Short-term pain relief with 120 mg or 240 mg of salicin from white willow bark has also been reported. (14)*
BerryVin®
BerryVin® is a bioflavinoid- rich powder made from blueberries, cranberries, strawberries and escobillo in addition to extracts from grapes and pomegranates. All these fruits are excellent sources of antioxidants that may protect healthy cells from being damaged by free radicals. Flavonoids have been reported to have antioxidant, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have shown flavonoids to be effective and safe for treating neuropathic pain, neuro-inflammatory diseases and oxidative stress, though more research is needed. (15)*
Botanicals
Valerian is an herb native to Asia and Europe that has long been used in traditional medicine. The root of valerian contains compounds that are recognized to have a calming and sedative effect on the body. Valerian extract from the root of Valeriana officinalis has been historically used to treat muscle pain, stress, insomnia and nervousness due to its soothing effect on the nervous system. (16,17) *
Passion flower (Passiflora incarnata) and Hops (Humulus lupulus) extracts also have medicinal properties that provide a calming and relaxing effect. The combination of valerian, hops and passion flower extracts have been found to improve quality of sleep when taken at bedtime. (18)*
In addition to being rich in anthocyanins and polyphenolic compounds, sour cherry powder (prunus cerasus) also contains the compound melatonin, which helps regulate the sleep-wake cycle. A study found that intake of tart cherry juice concentrate improved length and quality of sleep. (19)*
Minerals
The Joint Relief Power Pack contains three essential minerals –potassium and calcium magnesium. Potassium and calcium play important roles in muscle contraction and nerve transmission and are essential for normal functioning of muscles and nerves.
Magnesium is essential for several enzyme pathways in addition to playing important roles in regulating muscle contraction and calming the nervous system. (20)*
